If you have a Brother printer, you will need to install the correct drivers before you can use it. A driver is a piece of software that allows your printer to communicate with your computer. In this article, we will show you how to install the Brother printer driver.
- Download the drivers from the Brother or pedrivers website.
- Select Full Driver & Software Package (Recommended)
- Once downloaded, double click on the downloaded file to extract it.
- Select your language by referring to the list of languages and click “OK”.
- Please follow the installation screen instructions.
Notes:
- The instructions may vary depending on the Windows OS version.
- By installing this driver, the printer icon named “Brother xxxxxx Printer” or “Brother xxxxxx series” will be added in the Devices and Printers section.
- You must be logged on as an Administrator.
- If the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Yes.
- If the Windows Security dialog box appears, check Always trust software from “Brother Industries, ltd.” and click Install
How to Install For Network Shared Printing:
*If your client PC has the same OS as the server PC:
- Open the Control Panel.
- Click Hardware and Sound => Devices and Printers => Add a printer.
- Click The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Select Select a shared printer by name and type the Network Printer’s Name, e.g. \\server\MFC-xxx
- Click Next.
- If the warning message appears, click Install driver.
- Click Next.
- If you want to use your Brother machine as the default printer, check Set as the default printer.
Click Print a test page to check if your machine is working properly. - Click Finish.
*If your client PC has a different OS than the server PC:
NOTE: There are some instances where you should follow the steps above, even if the client PC uses a different OS than that of the server.
- Once the download is complete, open the folder or directory and double click on the downloaded file to extract it.
- Open the Control Panel.
- Click Hardware and Sound => Devices and Printers => Add a printer.
- Click The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Select Select a shared printer by name and type the Network Printer’s Name, e.g. \\server\MFC-xxx
- Click Next.
- If the Connect to Printer dialog box appears, click OK.
- Click Have Disk.
- Click Browse and specify the folder created in Step 1.
- Click Open.
- Click OK.
- Click Next.
- If you want to use your Brother machine as the default printer, check Set as the default printer.
Click Print a test page to check if your machine is working properly. - Click Finish.
How to Install For Network Printing using TCP/IP (Peer-to-Peer Printing):
- Once the download is complete, open the folder or directory and double click on the downloaded file to extract it.
- Open the Control Panel.
- Click Hardware and Sound => Devices and Printers => Add a printer.
- Click The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname and click Next.
- Select TCP/IP Device from the Device type.
Type the IP address of your Brother machine and be sure to check off the Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use option. - Click Next.
- Click Have Disk.
- Click Browse and specify the folder created in Step 1.
- Click Open.
- Click OK.
- Select the model name and click Next.

If the model name in the list includes USB in the name of the driver, it is possible to use this driver for network connection. - Select Replace the current driver and click Next (If applicable).
- Type a printer name and click Next.
- Select Printer Sharing option and click Next.
- If you want to use your Brother machine as the default printer, check Set as the default printer.
Click Print a test page to check if your machine is working properly. - Click Finish.
For Local Printer:
- Once the download is complete, open the folder or directory and double click on the downloaded file to extract it.
- Connect the USB cable.
- Open the Control Panel.
- Click Hardware and Sound => Devices and Printers => Add a printer.
- Click The printer that I want isn’t listed.
- Select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings and click Next.
- Select Use an existing port: (USB port) and click Next.
- Click Have Disk.
- Click Browse and specify the folder created in Step 1.
- Click Open.
- Click OK.
- Select the model name and click Next.
- Select Replace the current driver and click Next (If applicable).
- Type a printer name and click Next.
- Select Printer Sharing option and click Next.
- If you want to use your Brother machine as the default printer, check Set as the default printer.
Click Print a test page to check if your machine is working properly. - Click Finish.
